Therapy & Exercise

Move Freely, Recover Stronger. The Power of Aquatic Therapy & Exercise!

Personalized programmes designed to relieve chronic pain, improve mobility, strength and enhance well-being.

WHAT IS AQUATIC THERAPY & EXERCISE?

Aquatic Therapy & Exercise is a form of rehabilitation and fitness training that takes place in a pool, utilizing the natural properties of water such as buoyancy, resistance, hydrostatic pressure and temperature. We use evidence based methods and techniques,  to reduce pain, increase mobility, strength and enhance rehabilitation.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS ?

The buoyancy of the water minimizes joint stress, while increasing the range of motion, builds strength, flexibility, and coordination. This allows for gentle and controlled movements that can help, whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing a condition, or looking to move with greater ease. ” Water-based therapy provides a safe and effective path to better health.”

WHAT CONDITIONS ?

Aquatic Therapy and Exercise are suitable for individuals of all ages and fitness levels. Although many conditions can be helped, we are specialized working with those conditions:

  • Musculoskeletal
  • Neurological
  • Postural, Balance and Rehabilitation
  • Chronic Pain & Fatigue
  • Sports Recovery & Rehabilitation
According to NHS guidelines, Aquatic therapy has been shown to be effective for Pain Management and Rehabilitation, particularly in conditions like Arthritis, Lower Back Pain, and Neurological Disorders.

Benefits of Aquatic Therapy & Exercise

Reduced Pain & Joint Stress

The buoyancy of water supports the body and reduces weight bearing by 90% ,making movement easier for those with joint pain, arthritis, back pain or mobility challenges. This significantly lowers stress on the joints, muscles and spine,  providing pain relief and relaxation. This allows a safer rehabilitation with a lower risk of injury, compared to land-based therapy.

Improves Mobility, Strength and Flexibility

Aquatic environment enhances movement by reducing gravity’s impact, allowing for greater range of motion, muscle strength and joint flexibility in a low-impact environment. The water’s resistance naturally builds strength in all directions, while buoyancy supports the body, making it easier to move without strain.

Enhanced Balance & Coordination

Water’s dynamic support, challenges balance and postural control in ways that mimic real-life movements. Hydrostatic pressure enhances proprioception and body awareness, helping individuals with neurological or motor impairments improve coordination and stability more effectively than on land.

Supports Neurological Rehabilitation

The warmth of the water promotes muscle relaxation, reducing spasticity, tension, and pain often more effectively than traditional stretching or land-based techniques.  The sensory input from water stimulates the nervous system, helping to improve body awareness, muscle activation, and movement patterns, which is essential for recovery in conditions like Stroke, Parkinson, Multiple Sclerosis, or Cerebral palsy.

Faster Recovery from Injuries or Surgeries

By reducing weight-bearing stress, Aquatic Therapy allows for early rehabilitation after injuries or surgeries. Water’s resistance promotes gentle strengthening, while hydrostatic pressure reduces swelling and pain, accelerating healing and functional recovery. This enables a quicker return to daily activities with less discomfort.

Aquastretch

Fascial stretching for pain relief and flexibility

It is  a hands-on, myofascial release technique that uses guided stretching which is only made possible when in the water,  to release restrictions, improve range of motion, relieve chronic pain and muscle tightness. It uses traction and intuitive movement to unwind fascial restrictions that might not get resolved through exercise and intentional movement alone. AquaStretch myofascial release therapy eliminates pain caused by muscles or other connective tissues that are “tied down” by tight fascia. Also, damaged fascial tissue can contribute to pain at “trigger points” that restrict blood flow to nearby areas, causing the damage to spread. Ideal for those recovering from injury, managing long-term pain conditions, or seeking greater movement freedom.

Water Specific Therapy_ Halliwick

Functional exercises for mobility, balance and rehabilitation

Water Specific Therapy (Halliwick) – A specialized approach designed to enhance balance, postural control, and independence in water. It is particularly beneficial for individuals with neurological and physical challenges.  Originally developed for individuals with disabilities, as  it helps clients gain confidence, motor control and functional movement by integrating cognitive, sensory, and physical components.

03

Bad-Ragaz Ring Method (BRRM)

Neuromuscular
re-education for mobility and strength

Bad Ragaz Ring Method – It is a neuromuscular re-education technique based on proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF). We use floating rings at the neck, pelvis, knees and or ankles, to support the patient in an horizontal supine position, while performing water resistance-based exercises. This method enhances muscle activation, coordination and core strength, making it beneficial for rehabilitation, neurological conditions and strength-building. It is a strengthening and mobilizing resistive exercise model.  It can be used in the early rehabilitative stage of patient care.

WATSU

Gentle, flowing movements, deep relaxation and meditative experience

Water Shiatsu, also known as Watsu, is a therapeutic Aquatic bodywork technique that combines gentle cradling, passive stretching, and joint mobilization in warm water. Rooted in Zen Shiatsu, it is a passive method where the practitioner rhythmically moves the recipient, creating a flowing, meditative experience. This technique promotes deep relaxation, improves flexibility, relieves muscle tension, and reduces pain. It is especially beneficial for individuals with chronic pain, neurological conditions, or high stress levels, as the warm water enhances the effects of stretching and movement, encouraging a profound sense of physical and mental well-being.
